The Chance Encounter

The Chance Encounter offers a one-of-a-kind tea service experience hosted by me, Ryan Rix , in Eugene and greater Lane County, Oregon. Guests can experience an intimate Japanese sencha ceremony in some of Lane County's most tranquil spaces.

Guests will be guided through three infusions of a fine Japanese green tea over a half hour or hour long session. Plan to arrive at the trailhead 10 to 15 minutes early; guests are encouraged to enjoy the atmosphere of the Encounter's location before and after the tea ceremony.

I seek out some of Eugene's most quiet and scenic locations, places where I can bring a full tea service and seating to a shaded meadow or a scenic bluff, and you meet me at one of these for tea.

Whether we're seeking the beauty of the Owen Rose Garden, or a quiet meadow alongside the Willamette River, or an hour's drive in to wild forest, this mobile tea house will meet you there.

Experience a tea ceremony like no other while I take you on a tour of some of Japan's best tea. I seek out some of Japan's most unique and delicious green teas and bring them home to Eugene. They're met with good teaware and carefully brewed water to produce tea like you've never tasted.

Guests will have the choice between nearly-caffeine-free roasted teas, unique and fascinating senchas, and the sorts of high-quality shaded teas which would once be offered only to the imperial court.

Each tea will generally be brewed three times from the same leaves.

Each infusion will showcase the careful vigorous growth of the tea plants, the skill of the farmers and the tea producers, and the work the host and guests have invested in to drinking an amazing cup of tea.

Each session influenced by the choice of tea, the location, the weather, the quality and temperature of the water, and the mood of the participants to produce a one-of-a-kind moment for up to three guests.
